If you are interested in making conferences or events more meaningful read on and plan to listen to at least the last part of the podcast referenced below:

Last night, while pottering around in my front-yard I accidently found my self engaged in a bit of informal learning courtesy of THIS PODCAST I found via Stephen Downes.  While eavesdropping on a conversation between Jay Cross and George Siemens ‘thinking out loud’ in preparation for their talks at online educa (Berlin Nov29 – Dec1) I found myself quite enthralled with their discussion around the process by which each developed some of their more innovative ideas.

Toward the end of the conversation George makes some very practical suggestions around the use of social software to open up conversation around the event – simple things like picking a ‘conference tag‘ for blog posts, flickr photos etc and establishing an ‘irc channel‘ for backchannel conversation – and points out that the cost of doing so would be $0.
