Pat Helland returns to Microsoft

After two years ‘walking the talk’ of Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) at Amazon.com, architect extrordinare - Pat Helland is back at Microsoft. Pat probably doesn’t remember me, but I feel a strong affinity with him because the interactions between his blog and mine are what inspired me to keep blogging after I left Microsoft (roughly two years ago).

I found out about Pat’s return to Microsoft at the end of a rather bizzare day of internet connections with my past.

  • Discovering Jim McCarthy’s podcasts via a collaboration with Andy
  • Being asked to consult for a former employer from over 20 years ago
  • Launching an independent music venture with some friends
  • Talking with Laurel and Dave about a Web2.0 bust and the birth of Web3.0
  • Finding out that Daniel is about to launch a startup that smells v.Web3.0
  • Having lunch today with a former client who was with me in London when I had my Web2.0 epiphany, and in Seattle where I made my first ever blog post from Microsoft’s visitor centre.

Something just went blip in the ether.

To me, it looks and feels like the first shoots of green coming out of the soil after two years of scratching about in the hard, dry ground. Maybe my MSFT stock will be worth something substantial again (work hard Pat, Andy, Frank, Nick and colleagues, follow Ray Ozzie’s lead). Maybe some of this crazy stuff I have planted will bear some fruit.
