WWT - Smoke n Mirrors done well

The video ‘Kids react to WWT’ that appeared as the home page of worldwidetelescope.org when I first went there takes my prize for the best example of a way to publicize innovative work in progress.  There is not a single piece of footage of the interface, not even a screen-shot - just the looks of awe and wonder on the faces of people - very Hitchcock!

UPDATE: short wwt demo video now at ted.com

If I wanted to create a buzz around some innovative work (that wasn’t quite ready to ship) this would be a great way to do it. Even the blog posts from scoble, ted and others pick up on the reactions to seeing wwt. (the ted blog reports ‘this is the demo that made scoble weep).

I used to think google labs was the smartest showcase of nearly ready innovations, but wwt takes the cake.

I’m sorry but the “Kids react to WWT” video is one of the the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. It’s completely meaningless. There’s nothing clever whatsoever about it. At least let me hear what they say! It was a complete waste of time, web-space, bandwidth, etc. Whoever came up with it is an advertising moron. It’s insulting to anyone with even a little bit of intelligence and did not in any way peak my interest.
