OpenScience: my first discoveries – a podcast and some RSS feeds

Recently listened to THIS podcast (from Sept 2006) while digging around for information about Open Science. The talk runs just over 15min and is available in many formats (incl video). While more than a year old, the podcast confirmed my hunch that there are indeed a bunch of scientists who think this Read/Write Interenet stuff is useful for science.

I was surprised (and delighted) to discover more than just conventional blogging – the notion of publishing raw data as it is collected and thinking about automation has great potential. I really enjoyed hearing the anecdote of a scientist in sydney informing an experiment overseas by commenting on a blog while an experiment is in progress.

Scratching around for info on usefulchem led me to some interesting RSS feeds from blogs – One Big Lab, Science in the Open, Research Remix and Science Commons. Will be interesting to see what other openscience bloggers they lead me to.

If you want to connect with/read about science bloggers involved in Open Science, check out FriendFeed:- http://friendfeed.com/ and search for me (McDawg). You’ll find about 8 and from those you’ll get even more.
