According to this article in the local newspaper, seven educators from The University of Adelaide have been recognised by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council. I have had the good fortune to enjoy stimulating conversation with two of them (Simon Pyke and Karin Barovich) at the legendary faculty of sciences morning tea. Congrats to all seven, and beware – now that I know who you are, I will be in touch to infect you with my crazy ‘new media’ ideas for both Research and Teaching & Learning!!

Dr Barovich, Katrina Falkner (computer science), Professor Hemanta Sarma (petroleum) and Associate Professor Simon Pyke (organic chemistry) were recognised for their contribution to new
students.

Associate Professor David Walker (engineering) and Associate Professor Peter Devitt and Edward Palmer (medical) were recognised for innovative training tools, while Associate Professor Tom Burton’s enthusiasm for English was inspirational for his students, ALTC said.

I had the good fortune to take “Landmarks of English Literature” and “Medieval Literature” with Tom Burton (or TB, as he’s known by most of his students) and I must say, he’s one of the most personable and enthusiastic teachers of literature I’ve met. If you ever get the chance to hear him teach Chaucer or Milton, grab it with both hands. Such passion for literature is remarkable to see, and amazing to be caught up in.
