Speaking of Science

I have been tinkering away at a little side project that is almost ready for you good folk to take a peek – it’s called sciencegeekspeak and it might just develop into something very tidy indeed. The idea is to provide a platform for people interested in science to talk about their passion – the geekier the better! Kristin from Bridge8 reckons it’s a good idea too, so we have decided to get started with some conversation about the upcoming science blogging conference being put on by Nature at the Royal Institution in London.

Following the fascinating discussion (thanks to Graham and Richard) on my last Extraordinary everyday lives podcast (episode 53), there seems to be some interest in connecting the event in London with people in other geography / timezones. Since speaking with Richard about getting an .mp3 of his talk at the conference, we have made contact with Lisa (who works for the RI) who is keen to help out. As far as we can tell this will be all good news for both the RI and Nature so we are going to give our crazy ideas a whirl. To follow along or get involved keep an eye out for the tag ‘sciblog‘ around the traps.

As Kristin points out, we plan to do a little Skype hookup next week to thrash out some details and figure out a way to get more of you involved. So, if you care about science and have some skills / time to add to an online component of this or any future science event, come and join us.

p.s. Extreme hat tip to Jeff and Dave from EdTechTalk who taught me the value of an ongoing extended conversation around important topics.

Glad to see things are moving along nicely following our discussion.

Just off the phone to a friend in deepest Tasmania. Our podcast came up a few times.

Better than before, what we discussed about “the humble MP3″ resonated more clearly. I recall a few years back sending large files to Tas and clogging up her internet connection in the process.

For people in remote parts of the world and/or with a slow connection, I can appreciate how sending them links to “humble” streaming MP3 recordings makes a heck of a lot of sense.

Unrelated, but on Tuesday, I’m scheduled to finally speak with master blogger, Bora Zivkovic. There are a number of things I wish to discuss with him including our crazy ideas….
