Here are my first thoughts, and a few links from day 1 of the ‘Assistive Technology – creating value through participation’ conference by Australian Rehabilitation & Assistive Technology Association (ARATA) at the convention centre in Adelaide, South Australia.
Dave (LifeKludger) Wallace and I gave a presentation entitled ‘Life Tools’ which was a real story of a bloke, his mate and our shared connections. I would have to say this is probably the finest presentation I have ever been associated with – but don’t take my word for it, check it out here. (will update with link to recording from mixing desk when available, meanwhile both Dave and I recorded rough versions here and here.
During the lunch break we took some photos with a view to creating a photosynth or two. All four attempts turned out really badly:
- rondo 1 first try, second try
- the entrance hall
- exhibition space (the NovitaTech table is kinda ’synthy’)
I will head back in today and take some more photos and try to help out event artist in residence John Willanski (of InkRain fame) share some of his event doodlings with you all.
Look for more photos, art, posts and other goodies from the conference by searching for arata08.

An incredibly interesting, exciting and inspiring presentation.
Thankyou – for the great stories. Going off to play now:-)
ps Think Dave needs to Kludge the microphone for the next presso – Mike’s voice is really clear but Dave sounded much farther away – didn’t want to miss anything either of you were saying.
