I have really enjoyed handing out my new business cards over the last few days:

Big shout out to the team at GroverAllman for making the connection with me and printing the plectrums. If you like the idea, you can order your own (for yourself or your band) online HERE. Better still if you think I am either crazy or on to something, write your own post about it and tag it ‘groverallman’.

The point of this post is not just to plug a way cool business here in my home town of Adelaide, South Australia but to explore the reason I feel so good about my quirky cards. Then it struck me – it is all because of the cluetrain manifesto and my recent encounters with Jimmy Wales, danah boyd and Howard Rheingold.

’something I heard in this podcast of Howard Rheingold’s keynote from Education.au event in Melbourne. – Kids are experimenting with identity away from the gaze of parents and teachers’

The connections are a bit hard to articulate, might try to do that in a future post.

Fang – Mike Seyfang

p.s. they are guitar picks (or plectrums) in case you are wondering

I have been helping Education.au with their Web2.0 strategy and execution around events for over a year now. Today, they are running an event called ‘Generation MySpace’, with danah boyd in Brisbane – and I cannot be there. So, I get to observe the event online and share my findings via this post. Maybe we could treat this post as a kind of ‘remote event’ gathering (which makes me think we should organise a physical get together in Adelaide and report together) – in any case please leave comments / trackbacks with any other observations about the event (remember to tag eduausem2007 )

At last, some official audio from last week’s excellent Jimmy Wales event held by Education.au. I was lucky enough to get to the first half of day one in Adelaide, and I really want to hear what went on in the workshops in other cities – some important conversations need to be had down here.

For some reason, podcasts are trickling out in tiny chunks, starting at ‘part 4′. Tune your RSS podcatcher in to blogs.educationau.edu.au/seminar/feed (thanks Kerry J for the tip off).

p.s. There was at least one unofficial podcast published during the event last week – way to go JT!

Spent an interesting day at education.au’s Jimmy Wales event in Adelaide. Did a little experiment this time – no laptop. no fancy PDA – just my trusty phone with sms. Used Twitter to ‘tweet’ profound ideas instead of taking notes.

All was going fine until Jimmy Wales noticed myself and the person sitting next to me (with a nice shiny macbook pro) twittering. He stopped for a chat and pointed out that he is a fellow ‘tweeter’, then proceeded to the podium where he glanced frequently at his pda. At this point, I figured it would be cool to try and set up a ‘backchannel’ into the event via twitter – so I sent out a tweet saying ‘if you have a question for Jimmy Wales, I will relay it at an appropriate time’.

Then it struck me!

The flaw in my cunning plan was that I was ‘WRITE ONLY’ I couldn’t see any tweets (event those sent direct to me cos I had changed them from SMS to iChat AV. Tried to hack a workaround by asking people to tweet questions to the person sitting next to me but judging by the e/mails that were waiting for me when I got home, I missed the mark – too confusing.

Oh well, maybe next time.

p.s. Thank you to the conference pixies!

If you haven’t registered for the education.au seminar with Jimmy Wales in your State, then go and do so immediately! And while you are there, make sure you take heaps of photos (especially of the workshop in your state) videos and audio, publish them with the tag ‘eduausem2007‘ – with a flexible license that will allow mashups (ie Creative Commons – Attribution or similar).

Why?

Because attending in person will probably increase your interest level in this important documentary that is currently being shot (and available for preview). You could be able to watch yourself being part of making history.

Thanks to De for THIS POST that clued me in.

Now I really want to go – (please conference pixies, make it so)
